The purpose of the pre-training assessment is to determine the level of basic literacy and numeracy in order to identify the areas where focus should be given during a learning intervention
This is aimed at candidates selected for training interventions at an NQF level 4 or similar
The pre-training -assessment tool used focused on three specific areas Literacy , Numeracy & Computer Skills.
The Literacy section focuses on two English articles in the format of a comprehension which required the candidates to read and answer the related questions. This section totalled 30 marks. Answers were recorded on the sheets provided. The minimum requirement for this assessments is 50%
The Numeracy section consists of word sums assessing for ability to calculate by using addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages. Candidates are to show all calculations and steps in their calculations. Candidates are to record their answers in the spaces provided. This section totalled 50 marks. The minimum requirement for this assessments is 50%
The computer assessment focuses on the candidate’s ability to prove his / her skills in MS Word / PowerPoint / Excel and the Internet. This section totalled 50 marks. The minimum requirement for this assessment is 50%
The assessment instruments are in English.
